National School Breakfast Week

National School Breakfast Week 2025 will take place from March 3–7, 2025, celebrating the importance of a healthy morning meal in fueling student success. Sponsored by the School Nutrition Association (SNA), this annual campaign highlights the impact of school breakfast programs on academic performance, energy levels, and overall well-being.

The 2025 theme, "Fuel for Success", emphasizes how nutritious breakfasts set students up for a productive day. Schools across the country will host special events, themed menus, and educational activities to encourage participation in their breakfast programs and raise awareness among students, parents, and the community about the benefits of starting the day with a balanced meal.

By promoting access to school breakfast, the campaign aims to combat hunger, improve focus, and support healthier habits for young learners nationwide.

FLAVORS OF FARM TO SCHOOL

Lawmakers, government officials, and community members gathered at the First Hawaiian Bank Center for the Flavors of Farm to School event that featured 12 newly created school lunch recipes that feature widely-available local ingredients such as kabocha, sweet potato, bok choy, and ground beef.

The event was sponsored by the Hawaii School Nutrition Association and the Hawaii Child Nutrition Programs, and is a culmination of two years of activities under a USDA Team Nutrition Grant. Over a hundred recipes were gathered from the community with the top recipes going through nutritional analysis and further refinement. Teachers and students from Waipahu, Castle, Moanalua and Leilehua High Schools’ culinary programs learned how to prepare the dishes, and participated in taste testing and sharing their feedback.

Waipahu Plantation Village

On Martin Luther King Day, about 20 Hawaii SNA members explored the living history museum and botanical garden at Hawaii Plantation Village. As we walked through the replicas of the Hawaiian, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Okinawan, Portuguese, and Puerto Rican houses, we could just imagine our ancestors working, cooking, and raising families, many generations ago.
